Excellently drawn scene. I also like the flow of your phrasing.
I take it you mean to show the futility of carrying on an argument long past the point where any compromise may be reached, because that's certainly what I think of here. In fact what most comes to mind are certain disputes that are at least partly religious in nature - Protestant vs. Catholic in Northern Ireland, Palestinian vs. Israeli. They fight on, not because it will bring about a satisfactory resolution, but because yesterday they fought. A recursive process.
The ending in which our narrator sees the feud as a work of art is quite an ironic one under the circumstances.
