What is the 4Literature Library?

The 4Literature Library is a CD-ROM of more than 2,000 classic literary works. Each work is in the public domain, and while you cannot copy the disc itself, you can freely print out individual books to use as you wish. For a full list look here.

2,000? How can one CD possibly hold that much?

A CD-ROM can hold about 700 megabytes of data, or more than 700 million bytes. A byte can hold one character (a letter, number, punctuation mark, or space), so one disc can hold more than 700 million characters! Even an extremely long work like War and Peace only takes about 4 million. A short one such as one of Aesop's fables only takes a couple thousand. Of course, the average is somewhere in between, and so a little over 2,000 works fills a decent portion of the disc.

What are the requirements to run the software on the disc?

A computer with windows, a CD-ROM drive, and Internet Explorer 4.0 or later (nearly every Windows computer has IE 4.0 or later since it is shipped with the computer).

What about macs?

At this time there is no mac version available. However, if you want to leave your email address in the blank below, we'll let you know if this changes in the future.

Ok, so how much?

$19.99 per disc plus shipping and handling. For a single disc, S&H is $3.00 regardless of your location. (price in US dollars)

How do I order?

Click here and then click BUY NOW. We use PayPal for our payment processing and clicking BUY NOW will take you to our PayPal order form page. If you have used PayPal before you will be prompted to enter your email address and password. If not, you'll need to sign up for an account. This will take a few minutes, and includes giving your address, credit card information, and choosing a password.

I'd like to order the CD but don't have a credit card. How can I pay?

You can either pay by check (see next question), or use PayPal's electronic check service. This is similar to using a normal check in that you provide the information from one of your checks, and then the money is transferred directly from your account. This is also just as safe as normal checking. To do this, go here and create a new PayPal account. Then click "Add Checking Account". You will then be prompted for the bank routing and account numbers from one of your checks. PayPal will then make 2 small transfers to your account as a security precaution to make sure that it really is your account. You will then need to tell them those two amounts. At that point, you can then go here and order the CD.

I can't or won't use PayPal. How can I pay?

If it is a security concern, be aware that PayPal has over 20 million users and is owned by Ebay, and that nowdays ordering over the internet is just as safe as using your credit card in a store. If you really can't or won't order online then you can send us a money order or certified check. Please allow extra time. NO personal checks please. Here's how:

The certified check/money order should be made out for $19.99 per CD, plus a flat $4.00, so $23.99 for one CD, 2 x $19.99 + $4.00 = $43.98 for 2 discs, etc. Payment in US Dollars. (note: if getting one disc, it is slightly cheaper to order online)
